An HR manager is a common job that is needed in most companies. These jobs are usually the last to be laid off and a position that is usually secure when the economy falls like it has today. That is, of course, if the entire company has not shut down. This type of employment is the person that works closely with departmental management and staff. This person will interact with all employees who work in a company, and it is rare that any employee entering in to work for the company would make it through without meeting an employee of the HR department or its manager.

When you work in employment related to HR you will have to hold a degree in the field of business or human resources. This degree should be a bachelor's degree from an accredited university. This position requires an education because it is in management and it is a very important position within a company.

When you are working toward employment in jobs in human resources it is best that you start at the bottom and work your way up. As you complete your education you will be more qualified for the management position with your education and knowledge in the field.

The state and federal laws play a big part in jobs that are in the human resources department. As a manager, your job will be responsible to ensure the company complies with all regulations and meets requirements set forth by the government locally and federally. This position may include reviewing contracts prior to signing. This position will also know the legal regulations regarding employment. The company's liability will be on your shoulders, and if an employee feels they have been wronged, then you will be the first person their attorney will contact. You will have to ensure that all proper processes are followed and that the company is not sued.

When you work in human resource management jobs you also are usually responsible for payroll functions. This includes keeping track of offers that are made to employees, their salaries, and the caps on certain positions. HR will be the position that determines if a department has enough money to hire certain people at a specified rate. Usually management has to clear the offer through human resources. Your knowledge of payroll should be substantial and you must have put it to use through payroll programs and printing.

Healthcare and other benefits are provided through human resource jobs, and if you are looking for this type of employment in management then your experience should excel in this category. Employment in this area will include knowledge of benefit plans, making decisions on benefit plans, retirement planning for employees, company credit cards, disability knowledge, workmen's compensation knowledge, and much more. Any time an employee needs something regarding benefits like retirement and investment they will come to you for more information. This should be careful planning that you know how to do. Also, you should be well equipped with knowledge about insurance regulations, record keeping, and administering.

When things do go wrong with a company the person in an HR job as the acting manager will be required to attend hearings regarding the company. These hearings may be in house or out of the office in court. The knowledge of the law should extend far enough that the person has the ability to negotiate things and even do your own internal investigation within the organization to find out information pertaining to the hearing.

If you are working toward employment or jobs with human resources then you also need to be very savvy with a computer. You should be aware of the basic Word applications that this job requires. You will also have to use certain software programs for healthcare benefits, payroll, and much more. Oftentimes the software for this department that you will have to learn is custom made by an in-house programmer.

A Human Resources Manager has very good people skills and works great with other people. Some people have this quality and others don't. You need to have strong leadership skills because you will set an example for the entire organization. Your communication should be elite because you will need to speak with management, staff, vendors, legal advisors, and other people on a daily basis. If you cannot communicate appropriately and legally then this is not the position for you. The most important thing about communication with a job like this is that you need to know the legal and politically correct way to speak at all times. This should come naturally to you and you should have strong knowledge of the law and these things.

If you would like to work in jobs like HR management then there are many things that you need to do in order to become prepared for the job. These things include going to school for human resources and getting a four-year bachelor's degree. You will also need to acquire experience working in the field of human resources. You should also have people skills that stretch far beyond negotiating, communication, legal knowledge of employment, and much more.
