However, there is always the damaging potential that working in an office can prove to be a very problematic situation. Namely, the ugly specter of office politics may rear its head. As much as we would prefer to never deal with office politics, the fact remains that office politics that you need to content with. Or, you could circumvent it and deal with it in a proactive manner. Yes, there is always the possibility to work around office politics. Here are a few ways to deal with the issue of office politics...
Sticking to yourself as much as possible is always a great way to avoid any serious political bickering that will drag you into other office related issues. (HR employment officials dislike such problems). This does not mean that you act like a recluse or are unfriendly. Rather, it is suggested to stick with business and not get involved with personal issues. Do not provide too many people in the office with your personal problems and do not entertain those that wish to dump their personal problems onto you.
When you are new to a particular job via HR employment, it is best to lay a little low and observe things. Look at the dynamics of the people in the office. Are there any feuds present? Do some people sincerely dislike other members of the office? Take mental notes of all of this and then act appropriately. Or, more specifically, act in a manner that appropriately for your own business self-preservation.
Stick with listening as opposed to speaking. When you speak about issues related to office politics, you end up becoming involved. However, if you simply sit back and listen you can avoid making a number of errors that will lead to tons of problems. These problems can end up getting you fired if the issue becomes serious enough. Do you really want to help open vacancies at jobs for HR at your expense?
As much as possible, keep your personal opinions to yourself. Again, always stick with business for the bulk of the time you are in the office. Discussing personal issues of any nature will end up dragging you into the realm of office politics which is never a good idea. Personal opinions of business matters may be helpful, but personal opinions on issues outside the office can get you in a lot of trouble.
Are you thinking of choosing sides in the office? Do so in a very careful manner. Also, do so in a manner very sparingly. When you choose sides, you make someone happy but you also make people angry. Why get involved with such issues? It is not worth it and you may end up having jobs for HR looking to replace you as a result.
Avoid those annoying coworkers that are troublemakers in the office. They will do nothing more than get you with trouble and you can even make enemies by being friends with a troublemaker. No, this is not always fair but that is the way it goes.
