Tips for Fitting in at Work
Starting jobs for HR can be very intimidating. You do not know anyone there, the layout of the building is new, and the policies and procedures of the company are unfamiliar. This is enough to make anyone nervous about fitting in at the jobs human resources have to offer. However, it is not as difficult to become a member of the HR employment team as you might think.

The first thing that you need to remember is that chances are the HR employment team that you are joining wants you to be a perfect fit. They have been missing something, and they are hoping that you can fill the void. Keeping this in the back of your mind will help to keep you from trying too hard in your first few days of your new position. Often individuals who try too hard are the ones who have the hardest time fitting in.

When you take on jobs, human resource employees should get an idea of the expectations that your new company, your boss, and your coworkers have of you. Expectations may vary from person to person and company to company so it is essential that you understand what it is that you are getting into. By taking the time to investigate this you will ensure that you have something to strive towards.

Additionally, you should spend a fair amount of time learning about the policies of the HR employment position that you have taken. You will want to spend some time reading through your employee hand book as well as any other standard operating procedure manuals that you have available to you. Be sure that you ask questions should you have them. It is better to ask a question rather than making a mistake out of ignorance.

With HR employment it can often fall to you to set the example. This means that you should lead by example, and one of the best ways to do this is by observing the company dress code. Be sure that if casual attire is only accepted on Fridays make sure that you are not wearing jeans during the rest of the week.

Another great tip is to listen. Listen more than you speak. By simply observing what is going around you can pick up valuable clues that can help you to become an essential part of the HR employment team. If you can systematically adopt the same type of work ethic and process as those around you, your transition into the workplace can actually be quite seamless. Of course, this does not mean that you have to do everything the same as those around you, but it does help to give you an idea of how you should be integrating yourself into your new work environment.

Tanking a job with HR employment is an exciting opportunity, and fitting in does not need to be difficult. With a little effort, observation, and sensitivity you can quickly become a valued member of the team.
