For someone looking to enter this field and take up the challenges of an HR advisory job, the requirements can be a bit daunting. Educationally, the requirement is simply an undergraduate degree with an emphasis in human resources. Additionally, experience of at least two to four years in a human resource department is required, but many employers want the experience to be from a similarly sized firm or from an international firm to ensure the experience is somewhat meaningful.
A person in an HR advisor job should also have some attributes that can be highlighted on a resume easily. Companies want to see applicants able to work with a team in a variety of settings, and on projects that involve defining policies or providing consultation and advising within the department. Excellent computing skills and familiarity with office programs and some database management programs are certainly positives, as is the ability to write and speak well. All of these can be supported by past projects or in a one-on-one interview. Above all, most companies looking for employees in this field are seeking someone who has a great ability to analyze and make critical decisions in the HR field and have the knowledge and reasoning ability to support their decisions.
