This position will have payroll responsibility for hourly represented, non-exempt/non-represented, and staff employees at the Marathon Petroleum Anacortes Refinery.
*Responsible for accurate and timely processing of Anacortes Refinery payroll including leave and exception time management for 400+ employees. *Ensure employees are compensated accurately and timely based on Company pay practices and procedures, legal requirements, and union contracts. *Performs processing duties involving repetitive/non-repetitive calculations, verifications, and data entry such as preparing position, organizational and pay change forms, offer letters and relocation paperwork, and updating HR metrics and site org charts. Gathers, reviews, reconciles data and may develop report formats. Makes recommendations on improvements and recognizes relevant or missing data. *Advanced knowledge as a subject matter expert for payroll and scheduling applications. *Responsible for Labor contract interpretation related to payroll and meeting key payroll closing deadlines. *Update and maintain employee information in the payroll system and personnel files, including tracking hourly pay progressions and classification changes. *Responsible for providing new user training/materials and ongoing training related for timekeeping/scheduling and payroll systems. *Responsible for answering employee payroll inquiries in a timely, accurate and efficient manner with a strong customer focus. *Responsible for administration of state and federal leaves related to payroll activities and exception time. *Provide business support through testing for system updates during releases and operational updates (new schedules, wage type changes, etc.). *Acts as the Payroll and Time Management liaison with HR IT Support and providing detailed information of configuration changes required and prioritizing and documenting those changes. *Responsible for driving process improvements and efficiencies to meet evolving business and team needs. *Consulting and partnering with corporate payroll and other cross-functional areas for modifications, testing, site specifications. *Maintains audit and reconciliation procedures to assure accurate, complete, and valid payroll data. *Responsible for site union bidding process, maintaining seniority lists and union correspondence. *Responsible for updating employee qualifications and schedule changes in payroll and HRIS systems. *Responsible for providing reports to site leaders for tracking and key KPI needs. *Reviews human resources data, compiles reports and develops information and material. *Maintains current documentation of internal processes. *Prepare user training materials and documentation. Train hourly employees and/or supervisors on how to input their time entry. *Office administrator for the HR Department. *Required to work overtime as necessary. *Performs certain phases of human resources functions and related administrative duties. *Other duties as assigned.
*Requires independent judgement, critical thinking, company policy interpretation, labor contract interpretation, and understanding of state/federal wage/leave requirements. *Requires good interpersonal skills and relationship building skills. Must be able to work well with others and balance the needs of all levels, including Human Resources staff and management. *Requires good communications skills, both written and oral. *Must be detail oriented and accurate with data entry and basic math skills. *Requires a demonstrated ability to maintain high level of integrity and confidentiality. *Time management and the ability to meet individual deadlines in a team environment. *Must be willing to operate in a demanding and deadline driven environment.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
*Bachelor’s degree in Business-related major preferred. *Minimum 5 years of payroll experience required. *High School Diploma or GED required. *Working knowledge of Payroll/HRIS systems including report running required. *Knowledge of current rules, regulations, laws, principles, and practices related to payroll processing required. *Experience working with large, complex payroll involving different pay rules and work schedules that are governed by labor contracts is highly desirable. *Manufacturing industry experience preferred. *Experience in Workforce Software desirable. *Experience in SAP Payroll desirable. *Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite.
