Job Summary

Working in partnership with Human Resources team, Executives and Leaders, the Organizational Development Specialist provides expertise to help plan, coordinate, develop, as necessary, and execute the delivery, and evaluation of leadership & professional development for MSF that maximizes efficiency and economy of resources. This includes support for organization and team development, strategic initiatives, and organizational staff development planning efforts.

Essential Job Functions

Organizational Development & Planning - Supports MSF’s Strategic Planning by assisting/supporting and facilitating as needed in-house planning and project management that ensures implementation of key goals. Works with Executives and Leaders to implement organization improvement initiatives and assure alignment with the organization’s strategic plans. Assists in developing the Human Resource Department Strategic Plan. Helps facilitate Planning Processes for Teams, Programs, and Departments as requested. (35%)

Professional Development - In consultation with VPs and Leaders identify group and individual training needs and then research, design, develop/coordinate/ manage (as appropriate) and deliver/support training and organizational development initiatives with focus on professional and leadership development and e-learning solutions efficiently and effectively. (35%)

Performance Management & Succession Planning - Partner with HR Generalists to provide training and support for MSF performance management process. Consults with the Executive Team to manage the Succession Planning/Management process at all organizational levels, through identification of training needs/resources along with training and development programs. Helps develop and track individual development plans. (15%)

Assessment & Development - Consult on and assess training, educational, and individual development needs using appropriate tools with a professional, leadership, and/or career development focus. (10%)

Other - Perform other activities and responsibilities as assigned including HR Generalist duties as needed as part of the HR Team. (5%)

Required Skills

Duties

Works at a strategic level across the whole organization:



  • In consultation with executives and leaders provides coaching, facilitation, team development, whole systems analysis, process reengineering and organization development services to implement organization improvement initiatives and assure alignment with the organization’s strategic plans.


  • Manages the work of outside consultants when used and assures instructional quality and appropriate content of these consultants and contract Trainers.


  • Working with executives, leaders and HR team, develops and implements manager and staff development programs that support the organization’s succession plan


  • Develops strategic partnerships with the Executive Team, HR specialists, and other internal clients to identify and intervene on change management initiatives that foster organization learning and address corporate strategic goals and needs.


  • Proactively addresses and responds to O.D. issues by bringing key stakeholders together to assess root causes and performance gaps, implementing and/or supporting implementation of appropriate interventions, including strategic planning, tactical and project planning, facilitation, instruction, program design, materials development and performance analysis.


  • Provides project management support for organization-wide projects/initiatives as required, facilitating team efforts and helping to define project goals, timelines, resource requirements and planning to cope with conflict or stressor points in the plans.


  • Contributes to assuring healthy inter and intra Business Unit relationships, and helps groups initiate and manage change. Provides OD consultation services to requesting Business Units.


  • Focuses on improving group and departmental functioning. Facilitates group and departmental planning and interaction to improve group/ department productivity, decision making and performance in a team based and Program Management based cultural environment.


  • Work with Leadership and HR team to provide training, communications, and consultation on a variety of leadership and individual development topics.


  • Designs, develops, coordinates and implements training programs that support organization objectives and are aligned with the organization’s business plan.


  • Identifies and negotiates with outside consultants training resources when needed.


  • Delivers and conducts evaluations of professional development activities to ensure business objectives are being met.


  • Trains trainers on facilitation and delivery processes and content and assures instructional quality. Works with Claims Training and Development Specialist and licensing authorities to ensure that appropriate continuing education credits are applied to training events.


  • Manage training contracts with legal department.


  • Responsible for the management and oversight of the Human Resources Learning Management Software.


  • Maintain up-to-date in house reference library in support of MSF programs.


  • In partnership with HR team members and Leaders, provide support for career and/or development planning including consultation to managers and employees utilizing appropriate assessment and development tools, i.e., selection, 360-degree feedback, career development assessments.


  • Manage the tuition reimbursement program in coordination with Leadership and VPs.


  • In conjunction with HR Generalists and Leaders manage and coordinate Internship program.




Required Experience

Minimum Requirements

Education



  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, organizational development, applied behavioral sciences, business administration or related field.


  • Preferred: Master’s degree in human resources management, organizational development, applied behavioral sciences, business administration or related field.




Years of relevant experience



  • Five years of internal consultation and corporate training experience working with senior managers utilizing the skills and knowledge described above to improve work groups, teams, and organizations.


  • Preferred: Seven years of experience in a complex, multi-functional business organization.




Certifications



  • Appropriate professional certifications, including experience/certification as a human resources generalist is preferred. Insurance industry experience/certifications as well as experience/certification with assessment tools for career and leadership development are helpful.




Other Requirements of the Position



  • Regular attendance and presence in the designated workplace.


  • Skills/Knowledge:








  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning styles, participative training design, group dynamics, interactive learning methods, systems theory and quality improvement processes, principles of customer service, advanced consulting methods, leadership coaching, conflict resolution, group process facilitation, organization communications processes, change management, presentation skills and project management. Knowledge of and experience in the use of various assessment tools such as Gallup Q12©, Caliper©, Strength Finder©, DiSC®. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience managing and maintaining data in a learning or HR management system (LMS/HRMS).
