KARL STORZ is currently seeking a Director, Organizational & Leadership Development Americas

to join the North America Organizational & Leadership Development (O&LD) department.

Reporting into the Germany-based

Senior Director, O&LD, the

incumbent will be expected to provide leadership in all aspects of talent and organizational development, focusing on cultural and leadership development.

The Director will be a key member of the team.

He or she runs the O&LD-department in his region, is responsible for the complete O&LD portfolio and its further development in his or her region derived from the Global O&LD Strategy and adapted to the regional needs.

This includes, but is not limited to, working with senior leadership and human resources staff in the Americas, mainly the four key North American locations: El Segundo, California; Goleta, California; Charlton, Massachusetts and Mississauga, Ontario.


In alignment with the Global O&LD Strategy and its initiatives:

Development and expansion of organizational and leadership development in Americas which includes but is not limited to:

Evaluate and develop programs to create cross-company expertise and internal opportunities within the organization for employees.

Identify future organizational needs in Americas from an operational perspective.

Understand and analyze the needs of the business in Americas to design and deliver impactful, practical business solutions aligned with global initiatives. This

includes working with individuals, teams, functional and business units, and the organization as a whole. Understand individual business issues and concerns, facilitate change, increase communication and effectiveness and prepare the organization for meeting future challenges.

Assist corporate and business unit executives and leaders in Americas with the development of business strategies and plans by providing organizational development expertise, market information and human capital resource oversight. Support metrics that align with company’s strategy and core values.

Participation in developing the global O&LD Strategy.

Regional implementation of global strategy and processes that helps drive a high performing culture through the creation and implementation of people strategies including values-based programs, change management, talent management and succession planning, leadership & organizational development, engagement and recognition.

Further development of content concerning leadership development, global competencies, new learning and learning systems. Oversee the Learning Management System and all instructional design.

Management of O&LD projects.

Development and implementation of tailor-made O&LD initiatives for Americas those are oriented towards global concepts.

Close exchange with the Director O&LD Europe.

Managing and leading the team at the El Segundo site.

Direct organizational design efforts and provide leadership in effective change management.

May design, facilitate, deliver, training programs and workshops for senior leadership.

Must be able to travel up to approximately 30% of the year. The first year will be on the higher end due to acclimation.

Other ad hoc duties may be assigned.


A Master’s degree in human resources, business, organizational development, behavioral sciences or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


The Director, Organizational Development will have a track record of success within a large, geographically dispersed and complex organization.

He/she will have a minimum of ten years of general organizational development management experience in a high-intellect, professional environment.

The ideal candidate will have business skills and acumen with the ability to influence change and develop strong working relationships throughout the organization.

He or she has a profound experience in working with a European Headquarter.

A strong ability to gain trust and confidence at all levels throughout a broad and multi-tiered organization is critical.

Ability to lead organizational development and develop strategies across functional, geographic and organizational boundaries.

Experience in large scale organizational change and influencing cultural change within a large organization.

Track record of having designed and implemented programs that produce successful and sustainable systemic change.

A self starter who can work in an ambiguous environment.

Outstanding teaming, interpersonal and communication skills. Must be proven at working closely with senior management, divisional colleagues and employees at all levels.

Excellent project management skills.

Ability to work through influence and leadership to develop relationships and mutual respect.

Knowledge of human resources “best practices.”

Strong analytical skills; ability to understand issues and find appropriate solutions and articulate them in a clear, concise manner.

Technologically savvy; high functional understanding of Microsoft Office products including but not limited to Outlook, Excel, SharePoint.

Ability to quickly pick up working knowledge of software and/or systems typically used for this type of role including but not limited to Learning Management Systems (LMS).

Capacity to work effectively at a tactical and strategic level. Well grounded business management skills with proven ability to translate strategies into organizational development plans.

Hands-on style and ability to develop credibility and trust with internal audiences and senior management.

Strong conceptual and execution competency.

A background in a manufacturing and distribution environment, preferred.

Medical device industry experience, preferred.
