Position Summary The Human Resources Business Partner manages and supports the development of HR programs, procedures and policies on one or more vessels. This will include organizational planning, employment, compensation, employee relations, and training. This position is also responsible for ensuring education and compliance with local, state and federal employment related laws and federal regulations that correspond to the fishing fleet. The Human Resources Business Partner is responsible for the routine tracking of various programs related to promotions, pay increases and wage and position reviews. The position is the HR liaison to various different departments within the company. Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a dynamic and ever changing environment are key to the success of this position. The capacity to build strong, trusting professional relationships with vessel crew while ensuring the policies and needs of the company are met is important. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels in the company from management to unskilled laborers. Duties and Responsibilities Interpret and monitor adherence to company policies, procedures and controls throughout the vessel Direct vessel employment activities to assure flow of new hires into job openings and crew rotations Assist vessel management in implementing safety programs and educating employees about safety Advise and assist vessel management in communicating with employees on HR matters. Advise on training and performance management of staff. Provide counseling, guidance and direction on employee relations matters Provide input into portions of the annual HR budget, including crew recruitment, orientations and meetings, professional consulting, employee seminars, service awards and vessel related office supplies Participate in and manages the crew-up for assigned vessels at the start of a season Create, manage and administer seasonal crew orientations Meet each vessel at end of the season Partner with vessel department heads to create crew rotations for each season. Work across various vessels and departments to ensure fair rotations, and to fill any openings from within. Retain vessel trip rosters and rotations ensuring they are maintained with up-to-date crewshare information, with individual shares, departmental shares and vessel total shares included Maintain fleet-wide roster per trip and/or offload schedule and email to appropriate office staff Create reports as directed by Director Human Resources Create and update key crew job descriptions Advise vessel management in appropriate resolution of crewmember relation issues or violation of company policies Provide grievance counseling, document complaints and make recommendation to vessel and office management Manage crew complaint investigations, ensuring all parties have been interviewed and partners with Director Human Resources and vessel management in finding a suitable resolution that complies with polices and employment law Conduct exit interviews to identify job adjustment problems or reasons for leaving the organization Advise Director Human Resources of any personnel concerns or situations affecting the department or vessels Partner with the Claims Department in crew matters and potential resolution solutions. Responds to vessel and personal e-mails and phone calls on crew matters in a timely manner Measurements of Performance Level and strength of communication between HR and the vessels Response timeliness Effectiveness of resolutions to investigations and crew complaints Level of competence and qualifications of staff on vessel Crew understanding of company policies Able to resolve disagreements diplomatically and defuse tense situations with tact Reduction in number of EEOC and Civil Rights claims Ability to be proactive and anticipate requirements of the operation Competencies Required Knowledgeable and up-to-date in federal, state and local employment law Proven investigative experience and techniques Up-to-date knowledge of CIS, USCG, OSHA and DOT rules and regulations Understanding of the fishing industry from an operational standpoint Able to multi-task in a fast-paced, ever changing environment Must be able to prioritize projects to meet critical deadlines Attention to detail imperative Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Knowledgeable about data base systems or HRIS Proficient in written and verbal communication Strong interpersonal skills Understanding of tactical and strategic HR functions and processes Credibility in honoring commitments and treating all situations fairly and with sensitivity Patient and sensitive of cultural differences present in a diverse workforce Education/Experience Required Minimum four years of human resource experience in a manufacturing environment Bachelors degree in Human Resources or equivalent work experience Supervisory experience desired Work Schedule Anticipated hours are: Monday Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Extended hours and weekend work will be required to respond to vessel inquiries and assistance. Occasional travel to Alaska
