JOB SUMMARY

Ensures efficient and accurate processing of payroll information and administration of the payroll function in accordance with state and federal laws, rules, and regulations, as well as Company policy. Responsible for assisting other employees and management with payroll- as well as HR-related questions and problems.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Acts as the key payroll/HRIS resource to accounting, and other internal and external customers and responds to all payroll related questions and employment verifications

Manages time and attendance system and ensures the accuracy of pertaining data for payroll processing

Processes garnishments and other notices on a timely basis

Assists personnel with payroll questions and problems

Compiles payroll data such as hours worked, taxes, insurance, and employee identification number, from timesheets and other records for payroll processing.

Updates and maintains personnel records on daily employee attendance, department transfers, address changes, job and safety performance notices, and/or other employee-related issues in an accurate and timely manner.

Prepares computer input forms, enters data into computer files, or computes wages and deductions and posts to payroll records. Reviews wages computed and corrects errors to ensure accuracy of payroll.

Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records.

Provides assistance to employees and management in HR-related matters

Participates in Benefit Annual Enrollment process

Compiles updates and generates department reports.

Performs other work related functions such as administration of recognition program, security system, as needed

Participates in continuous improvement teams, as needed or requested.

Assist in SRMP as needed.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level, as needed or requested.

Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment by coordinating with the Plant manager in administering an effective safety program and Oregon’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Associate degree or two year technical training, with a minimum of 1 year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

EXPERIENCE

3-5 year experience in Payroll

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers/vendors or employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

PHR/SPHR Certification is desired but not required

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Strong oral & written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required.

Attention to detail

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters

Ability to provide advice and direction to other team members a plus

The ability to meet deadlines and work independently without supervision

Bilingual English/Spanish definitely a plus.

Personal computer experience in Word & Excel required. Previous experience with Kronos & UltiPro a plus.
