Job Title

: Payroll Manager

Actuant is looking to hire an energetic and experienced professional to manage all aspects of the payroll department, including multi-state payroll processing for 2000 domestic employees and the administration of the timekeeping and expense reporting systems. The Payroll Manager is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of the payroll duties, while maintaining compliance with Company controls and policies. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, provide leadership and direction to staff and have strong problem solving and interpersonal skills. The Payroll Manager will also need to be able to manage several projects simultaneously with the ability to be detail oriented and hands-on. A strong understanding of payroll and benefits processes, along with existing knowledge of Kronos and Oracle systems will be critical in this role.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Active involvement and ownership in the processing of weekly payroll, maintenance of the timekeeping system (Kronos) and administration of employee expense reporting process (global).

Perform specific payroll duties including, update employee data in payroll software, address federal and state payroll tax issues, process employee garnishments and maintain payroll records consistent with current laws.

Foster a team environment of continuous improvement, timely communication and quality/accurate execution of payroll department responsibilities.

Supervise a staff of 2 payroll analysts, ensuring department tasks and objectives are completed, stretch goals are established and proper collaboration with internal customers (finance, treasury, human resources).

Work with business units to stay apprised of organizational changes or reporting requirements that may impact payroll and to ensure timely, accurate and compliant payroll processing

Coordinate with Corporate tax department on state registrations and provide tax department state apportionment annually

Participate in acquisition activities (centralization of payroll processing in shared services center) and divestiture activities (transition services), as needed.

Maintain Oracle software for pay codes, deductions and schedules. Serve as main point of contact for various 3


party providers, including Oracle.

Manage compliance with various Federal, state and local agencies for payroll taxes and ensure proper reporting of W-2 wage information for all Actuant US employees

Provide appropriate payroll data, monthly reports and accounting information to Finance, Human Resources, and other Actuant functional areas

Oversee global expense reporting system (Concur), including personnel updates, maintenance of the system, monthly reporting, user support and continued global rollout.

Oversee compliance of Actuant auto allowance program and provide data for annual workers compensation audit.

Draft policies and procedures related to payroll processing, auto allowance and travel & expense matters

Drive simplification of processes in all areas of responsibility while maintaining compliance with corporate finance policies and Sarbanes-Oxley controls for payroll.

Required Skills:

Demonstrates ability to independently analyze payroll problems, opportunities and circumstances and their potential impacts on the Business and make effective recommendations/decisions

Drive to continuously improve processes within the payroll organization

Establishes relationships inside and outside of the organization that enhance levels of cooperation and collaboration

Adept at handling sensitive and confidential situations and information

Required Experience:

Requires two or four-year degree in accounting/finance/business and 7 years of payroll experience (including multi-state)3 years supervisory experience (minimum)

Knowledge of Oracle and Kronos highly preferred

Knowledge of Federal, state, and local payroll tax laws

Demonstrated knowledge of executive and expatriate compensation

Understanding of general ledger accounting

Demonstrated capability to listen and communicate orally and in writing to a wide spectrum of Team Members, to include Actuant Leadership

Knowledge of Concur expense reporting software a plus

Strong project management skills

Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
