Position Overview

\r

The Director of Human Resources will join North Lawndale College Prep leadership team during an exciting phase of growth. Therefore, this individual will embrace continuous improvement and innovation, is able to hold a short-, mid-, and long-term lens as needed, can flex between hands on work and getting results through others when suited to best support the team, and relishes the challenge of finding ways to provide better, more efficient support to our team and family. The Director of HR will report to the NLCP President. He/she will also work closely and collaboratively with school leadership and cross-functional departments including School Support, Operations, Data, Technology, Finance and Accounting.

The ideal candidate for this position deeply understands the value of people –and how to make people feel valued – in a mission-driven organization. S/he has expertise in Human Resources, a strong track record of effective people management and team leadership, risk, compliance and employee relations management, and impeccable judgment. Roles and Responsibilities

Counsel and Support Managers

\r
\r

• Provide advice and guidance to senior leaders and supervisors on all employee issues – including leave requests, complaints/concerns, performance management including high-impact coaching plans and performance improvement plans, and separations

\r
\r

• Respond with empathy and timeliness to supervisors when they need guidance on how best to navigate sensitive and at times complex employment situations – after hours phone calls (some evenings and early mornings) expected

\r
\r

• Provide thought partnership and coaching to staff members and managers to support positive working relationships and healthy work environment

\r
\r

• Balance knowledge of HR compliance with unique circumstances of NLCP culture and pragmatism, and the needs of the organization with employee advocacy

\r

\r
\r

Staff Relations, Policies, and Performance Practices

\r
\r

• Create, maintain, and disseminate safe, simple, and culturally-aligned policies and practices.

\r
\r

Ensure all staff receive engaging, dynamic, memorable training on key policies and benefits.

\r
\r

• Oversee, and on many occasions lead, investigations into staff concerns and complaints.

\r
\r

Orientation and Onboarding

\r
\r

• Collaborate with Leadership Team during the hiring process - to ensure policies and systems are in place to effect a seamless new hire onboarding including all new-hire-paperwork/documentation and welcome package/communication

\r
\r

• Oversee all background checks and employment clearances required and prudent for public education staff

\r
\r

• Oversee the delivery of a comprehensive, effective, and culturally-rich new hire orientation for new hires annually;

\r
\r

• Coordinate closely with all departmental stakeholders and schools to ensure aligned and coordinated onboarding process

\r
\r

Compliance

\r
\r

• Oversee and track all labor and employment compliance issues (wage and hour law compliance, employee records, Ed Code compliance, etc.)

\r

• With team, oversee compliance for all teacher credentialing

\r
\r

• Track key metrics including teacher credentialing compliance, mandatory training completion, staff satisfaction with benefits and support, etc
