The Fire Protection Systems (FPS) Business Unit is part of the Fire and Security Products (FSP) group at UTC Climate, Controls & Security. It is dedicated to providing product and technology designed to protect people and property from the effects of fire and its related hazards. As a large manufacturer of fire safety products for the consumer and B to B markets, the Fire Protection Systems group meets the safety needs of homes and businesses by providing fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, mechanical locking systems, fire alarm control panels, and mass notification solutions. Notable brands within the group are Kidde, Badger and Edwards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

We are seeking a high energy, talented Human Resources Manager to support the FPS business in a true generalist capacity. Reporting directly to the HR Director for FPS, this role will be responsible for entire employment life cycle, driving the people agenda, developing talent strategies, and implementing HR initiatives.

This role is responsible for staffing and sourcing, talent development, performance programs, compensation, policy compliance, employee relations, communications and data analysis/reporting for the FPS business headquartered in Mebane, NC.

Highlights of job duties include:

In partnership with the HR Director, implement strategies that increase employee engagement and retention

Support Talent Management activities, including the identification, development, and movement of talent within the organization

Deliver timely, high quality and impactful employee communications

Identify and champion human resources process improvement initiatives

Support recruitment efforts with a focus on bringing in diverse talent and building the bench

Compile, analyze and report Human Resources metrics

Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws through appropriate program and process management, as well as ad hoc situation analysis and subsequent plans of actions

Conduct timely investigations, prepare documentation and make appropriate recommendations

Identify employee issues; recommend cost effective solutions

Provide training and development activities for the salaried work force

Develop and facilitate trainings and informational sessions

Annual Enrollment (benefits)

Onboarding and processing of employee exits

Responding to employee’s questions, researching the answer and responding back in a timely manner

Leave of absence processing/tracking

Qualification:

Advanced level skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)

Project Management Skills

Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to pull complex data from assorted sources and synthesis in both graphic and verbal format

Proven ability to influence and work effectively across all levels of the organization

Demonstrates discretion, able to work with sensitive and confidential materials and possess good business judgment

General knowledge of employment law (such as the ADA, EEO, ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, NRLA, & Title VII) and ability to apply legal concepts to real world situations

Fast learner, able to readily apply knowledge gained in one situation to others

Highly organized with strong attention to detail, while also able to manage multiple priorities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Unwavering customer service orientation

Proven facility to deal with conflict and diffuse difficult situations

Capability to work on tasks where limited written procedures and protocols exist, following broad based verbal guidance to determine the best course of action

Demonstrated aptitude to recruit in a low cost fashion; can effectively use online recruitment tools

Ability to understand, interpret and easily communicate policies, practices and the UTC Code of Ethics

Superior follow-up and follow-through skills

Education:

The ideal candidate will possess a BS degree in Human Resource Management, Business Management or an applicable field from an accredited University with hands-on experience in the HR function in a manufacturing or corporate setting. A graduate degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources or Business is highly desirable.

TYPICAL EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree with 5-7 years of experience

Master's degree with 2-5 years of experience
