We are seeking a Payroll Manager
for our Corporate Office in Auburn Hills, MI
The Payroll Manager will direct the day-to-day operations of all Corporate Payroll functions, Customer Service, Garnishments, Taxes, and the Payroll location teams to ensure wage and hour compliance is met for 2,800 employees weekly. Ensures system controls are implemented properly and audit Payroll Operations to ensure processes are being followed. Responsible for determining root cause through quality processes when a criteria for decision has been met. Through this process, communicate and drive process improvements to all payroll operations across the organization. Provides education to ensure end-to-end ownership is adopted among the locations.
This position will manage several key control areas within Payroll, along with areas of possible risk to the company. This includes procedure enforcement, auditing, educating, best practice implementation, training, and coaching all location staff to ensure end-to-end ownership is adopted.
He/she will also maintain documentation of all payroll controls and procedures; coordinate and manage the production of all audit deliverables relating to payroll and related systems; provide customer service to and create strong working relationships with all CSP locations within the company. This includes assisting employees timely with issues/concerns and any special payroll requests. He/she is also required to research and stay abreast of new regulations regarding compliance and tax issues for the US. He/she will assist with the design of changes to the Payroll system, if necessary, to support all requirements.
This position reports to the Director of Benefits and Compensation.
Essential Job Functions:
Direct the overall operations of the Corporate Payroll System and plant teams, to ensure wage & hour regulations and policies are followed.
Responsible for payroll taxes, audit, training, focusing on possible risks, root causes and solutions.
Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations.
Audit W-4s, payroll change reports, YTD earnings, etc.
Requires continuous education on tax and withholding compliance rules and regulations for the US, and is responsible for accuracy and ensuring all year end requirements are met on time.
Responsible for resolving payroll regulatory issues and maintaining strong relationships between our Location Payroll Teams, Human Resources, and the Corporate Payroll Center.
Responsible for the weekly handling of modifications to employee records for Corporate and all other Locations across the organization.
Responsible for the bi-weekly processing of the Corporate Payroll for hourly and salary-exempt and non-exempt employees, and overseeing the weekly processing at all locations.
Responsible for overseeing the preparation, timeliness, and accuracy of all yearend processing for 2,800 plus employees, including W2s for all locations.
Responsible for system and manual processes to correct errors in a timely manner.
Responsible for ensuring expense processing follows IRS guidelines and CSP Policies while using additional sources for review.
Responsible for the legal compliance of overtime FLSA regulations for hourly and non-exempt employees.
Ensure that confidential employee information is properly protected at Corporate and all other locations, and that confidentiality of all payroll-related information is adhered to at Corporate and all other locations.
Education, Qualification and Skills for Payroll Manager in Auburn Hills, MI:
Bachelors in Business or Finance is preferred.
7-10 years of payroll experience plus 3-5 years management experience
Working experience with payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels
CPP designation preferred
ADP Workforce Now, e Time systems, and Oracle system knowledge required
Expert level ability with the Microsoft Office suite (primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Compliance – Strong knowledge of federal and local regulatory compliance around payroll to understand and be able to enforce standard operating procedures, with controls.
In depth knowledge of laws around garnishments, subpoenas and payroll compliance in United States
Strategic Thinking - Demonstrates ability to develop a plan of action to achieve a particular goal or objective.
Communication Skills - Ability to clearly express ideas, both written and verbal, in a logical manner.
Project Management - Experience in planning, coordinating, and communicating key objectives, tasks, and risks related to initiatives/process improvements/projects.
