Job Summary

The Senior Human Resources Manager provides leadership, direction and guidance in handling all aspects of employee relations and performance management for the stores. The Senior HR Manager also provides general human resources support to the stores. This position works closely with the Vice President of Human Resources to ensure that staff concerns are addressed in a transparent, fair and consistent manner in keeping with organizational culture.

Responsibilities and Duties

Provides advice, direction and guidance to management on daily employee relations and performance management issues

Works directly with store management to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters

Administers employee disciplinary policies and procedures; provides assistance to store staff on disciplinary issues and actions to be taken

Coaches and mentors store management staff to improve their skills in handling employee relations and performance management

Provides knowledgeable support to staff and management regarding the union contract, benefits, health and safety, employment, training and payroll

Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal, state and local requirements

Conducts investigations, maintains records and represents the organization at union disciplinary meetings

Administers various human resource plans, policies and procedures, communicates changes and ensures compliance

Supports the organization by implementing programs to help improve the employee experience

Participates in developing department goals, objectives and systems

Provides support, mentoring and coaching to other members of the HR team

May participate in the onboarding process and provide other related training

Qualifications and Skills


A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources or equivalent management experience

Knowledge and experience in employment law and labor relations, compensation, recruitment, employee relations, health and safety, employee engagement, and performance management

At least 3 years’ experience coaching staff and managers in handling employee relations, performance management and conflict resolution

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Outstanding interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills

Intermediate level of computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)


Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business or related field

PHR or SPHR designation

Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations

Previous retail management experience

Experience working with employment law attorney a plus
