Team Overview
The Expatriate Compensation Team is sub-group of the International & Expatriate Accounting Department within Deloitte s Financial Services Group (FSG). The Expatriate Compensation team is comprised of two distinct sub-teams: the Budget/CP Team & the Compensation Team.
The Budget/CP team is responsible for the creation of assignment budgets (estimations of assignment related costs) and cost projections (estimations of assignment related tax costs). The team works closely with Global Mobility and Global Employment Services (GES) teams to prepare short-term and long-term outbound and inbound assignment budgets and cost projections.
The Compensation Team is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of expatriate expenses, allowances, and tax payments. The team works closely with Deloitte s U.S. Payroll Team to process the compensation/payroll items related to the expatriate population. In addition, the team collaborates with Global Mobility, the Office of Global Deployment (OGD), and GES groups to manage the compensation related issues for our expatriate population. This includes questions regarding expatriate policies and procedures, the calculation of allowances, and the hypothetical tax calculations and withholdings
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Expatriate Compensation
Administer detailed transactions involving payments to and on behalf of Deloitte s expatriate population.
Ensure accurate compensation recognition. This relates to W-2 review for staff as well as K-1 review for partners.
Assess taxability of compensation items and prepare necessary advances for taxes.
Work with the India Expat Compensation team to review and approve expatriate expense reimbursements and process bi-weekly payroll submissions.
Develop and display a strong understanding of the Deloitte mobility policies, accounting standards, and tax treatment of all activity related to the expatriate population.
Analysis & Reporting
Analyze transactional activity and develop various reports to meet Deloitte s reporting needs/requirements.
Perform various analyses relating to expatriate compensation activity including but not limited to W-2 & K-1 review, split payroll reconciliations, peer level salary audits, hypo tax administration, FICA/tax advances, etc.
Perform various special projects on an as needed basis.
Cross-train with Budget/Cost Projection role to build detailed expatriate accounting experience.
Process Improvement
Manage complex and exception-based expatriate assignments to ensure accurate budgeting and tax estimation, salary and allowance delivery, and customer satisfaction. Identify exceptions to standard policy and assess process adjustments needed administer exceptions.
Develop creative financial solutions to meet varying business needs.
Understand the policies that affect expatriates. Create consistent but flexible processes, establish process standards, develop process controls supported by periodic audits, identify and implement process improvements to support the compensation process.
Qualifications
A Bachelor s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting is required.
A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required. A Master s Degree would be considered as relevant experience.
Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills are a requirement. The job is intensive in communications with all levels of the organization. Situations will require one to be firm and tactful for disputed matters. Candidate must be able to operate effectively within Deloitte s culture of diversity and inclusion.
An Organized approach to workload and ability to prioritize and handle unique situations is required.
Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point experience is required.
A working knowledge of SAP GL and HR modules is preferred.
A strong understanding of accounting theory is required.
Strong analytical and organizational skills are required.
Ability to work with virtual teams and across cultural and functional boundaries is required.
Previous experience with expatriate programs, process management and/or payroll is a plus.
Excellent process management skills are required. The applicant must be organized and able to handle high volumes of transactional activity and tight deadlines. The applicant must possess the ability to prioritize competing tasks and handle unique situations.
