Profile

Position Purpose

  This position reports to the V.P. Global HR Support Services & Risk Management and is responsible for the coordination of worker's compensation claims management programs and policies for Woodward.  A goal of the WC Specialist is to work towards reduced claim costs and duration. The WC Specialist is the liaison between Woodward and the insurance carrier, service providers, internal management and members.

Essential Functions

  Maintain case files, investigates issues as appropriate and recommends action.

Maintain communication with the worker's comp carrier to keep Claims Representatives up to date on cases from Woodward's perspective, and serves as the contact point for the Claims Representative to update Woodward on individual cases.

Prepare monthly Worker's Compensation Open Claims Management Status Report, and other reports as determined appropriate or requested.

Serve as initial contact for all settlement authorizations. Co-ordinates with V.P. Global HR Support Services & Risk Management, or designate.

Audit Worker's Compensation insurance carrier invoices for accuracy and recommends payment. Provides explanation for high dollar spikes with V.P. Global HR Support Services & Risk Management, or designate. Provides advisory reports to the appropriate financial teams.

Keep plant site HR and EHS Managers (as appropriate) informed about the case status.

Work with HR Manager, EHS Managers and the Medical providers in properly administering the worker’s compensation cases.

Coordinate Quarterly Review Meetings with insurance carriers and Woodward staff.

Prepare analysis and distributes key metrics reports.

Partner with EHS department striving to decrease workers compensation costs

Monitor workers compensation claim reserves to ensure appropriateness

Facilitate worker compensation time recording/tracking

Work with claim administrator & legal counsel to evaluate and facilitate claim resolution coordinating with V.P. Global HR Support Services & Risk Management, or designate.

Oversee the management of Worker’s Compensation claims

Direct the claims process and insurance adjusters, ensure timely and accurate claim handling, administration of claims

Work to move legacy claims to closure

Evaluate claims and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on strategies to minimize costs and expedite claim resolution

Work with designated legal counsel on high dollar, complex claims

Assist plants, as needed, with injured employee return to work efforts

Stay current with jurisdictional WC statutes and legislative changes

Assist in development of Annual Profit Plan recommendations

Other Functions

  Assist as required, with other lines of property and casualty insurance programs

May communicate occasionally with the leader and member on problem resolution

Job Requirements

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  Solid knowledge of Worker's Compensation multi-state programs, laws, and policies..

Ability to evaluate and assess issues, and elevate attention as required.

Working knowledge of property & casualty claims management.

Ability to prepare and submit insurance program renewal packages.

Ability to implement and manage absence and disability management programs.

Ability to make well reasoned and circumspect decisions.

Ability to communicate effectively, using good judgment, tact, discretion and initiative.

Ability to appropriately manage confidential information.

Education or Formal Training

  BA/BS required. 

Prefer business or insurance focus.

Experience Required

  Minimum 10 years experience in Worker’s Compensation, Property & Casualty insurance claims administration.

  General office environment. Requires occasional travel, primarily to Woodward site locations.
