As the Fund’s needs evolve, must be proactive about developing new areas of expertiseLives our values – Must be a role model for the Fund’s BETTER Culture and Mission (Better, Engage, Teamwork, Trust, Empower, Respect)The purpose of this position is to prepare plan documents and understandable participant communications that meet legally required and health literacy standards designed to educate participants about how to get the most from their benefit coverage. This position will be responsible for coordinating the identification and resolution of various benefit and eligibility issues across multiple disciplines as it pertains to the rules and regulations of the Plans. This position will also assist with the preparation of resolutions for Board of Trustee meetings, as needed.Ensure that the plan unit complies with ERISA reporting and disclosure requirements, including creation and distribution of:Plan documentsSummary plan descriptions to newly eligible participants and periodically to all participantsSummary annual reports (SARs) Summaries of material modifications (SMMs) Summaries of Benefits and Coverage (SBCs)Create, using knowledge of legal requirements and sound plan and administrative design, necessary benefit and administrative amendments and associated plan documents Ensure timely revision of Summary Plan Descriptions and Summaries of Benefits and CoverageEnsure adherence to ERISA’s fiduciary responsibility mandates by drafting all plan documents and communication material in a manner complying with all federal benefits and benefits related legislation and regulationsEstablish and maintain electronic archives of all plan documents, e.g. plan document, amendments, summaries of material modifications, and summary plan descriptions;Identify, research and evaluate contemporary benefit developments to assess their impact on plan design, administration and communication requirementsDevelop ERISA required materials, e.g. plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, summaries of material modifications for certain fund staff benefit plansAssist in the drafting of Board of Trustee resolutions, including associated research and data requests, as neededOther duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the jobSkills:Strong verbal skills including the ability to communicate technical terms and ideas to non-technical staff, professionals, participants, etc. whether oral or writtenStrong written communication skillsAdvanced computer skills required in all Microsoft formatsBi- or Multi- lingual skills (written and verbal) a plusA demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and attend to detail and deadlines to bring projects to a satisfactory conclusionExcellent research and analytical skillsAbility to: Interact and work effectively with all levels of staffProblem solve, multi-task, and identify effective process improvements and cost-saving measuresManage competing deadlines and multiple projects in a fast-paced environmentPerform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodationEducation: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study, preferredLicense: N\/ACertification Required: N\/A Minimum Years’ Experience: 3-5 years Other Requirements: Experience in a healthcare, benefits administration or compliance work environmentWorking knowledge of health plan compliance (ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, etc.)Experience in a Taft-Hartley environment a plusExperience in drafting legally-required health plan materialsRequires an excellent understanding of all facets of welfare benefit plans as it relates to plan design and administration including plan benefits & eligibility
