This position will provide strategic Human Resource leadership for the Utilities business and leadership team. As part of the $1.2 Billion Cranes Segment of Terex, the Utilities business has revenues of $400 million with strong operating profit. The business is headquartered in Watertown SD with manufacturing facilities in Watertown SD, Huron SD and Betim, Brazil in addition to Utility branch offices and over 20 service centers in the US. The role will serve as a senior business partner to the General Manager of the Utilities business. The incumbent will manage organization change initiatives and help to improve and drive profitable growth of the Cranes Americas business.
Terex Utilities, founded in 1945 with the advent of the groundbreaking Tel-E-lect digger derrick, has been rooted in the growth and maintenance of this nation’s utility infrastructure for well over 70 years. Core products include Digger Derricks, Aerial Devices, Augur Drills and Augur Tools. Terex Utilities employs over 1100 team members of which approximately 700 team members are direct labor. The Utilities sales and service organization consists of approximately 400 team members residing a sales and services offices across the US and Canada.
We seek an experienced, technically savvy individual who can excel in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment. The position will be heavily involved in leading a variety of Human Resources Management functions and will play a leadership role in the following areas:
Deliver a standard of strategic leadership, operational management, and tactical support that reflect the core values of the organization. Recruitment, performance management, learning and development, and HR generalist competencies will be critical.
In partnership with the Group Vice President Human Resources, Cranes, will develop a people strategy to support the growth and improvement plans of the business.
Construct and manage a resource plan to ensure forward thinking delivery of talent to match business objectives. Advise the leadership team and provide a strategic vision for talent.
Establish and maintain a positive team member relations environment and promote a safe and high performing culture.
Incorporate multiple business segments into one location, supporting multiple product lines. This will include understanding, developing and supporting the strategic initiatives of the business, including organizational design, staffing, training, etc.
Plan, coordinate, perform, and participate in day-to-day Human Resources Management activities for team members.
Assure Team Members receive timely response to inquiries, answer questions, and receive access to all Human Resources services.
Spend significant time on the shop floor, building relationships with all Team Members.
Participates in salary surveys and makes recommendations. Evaluates temporary agency services and determine the most effective staffing levels and cost effective measures.
Identify programs and procedures to support team member development and involvement i.e. tuition reimbursement, career paths, community service programs and events.
Interprets and support corporate/ departmental policies and procedures governing safety, professional ethics and the company's handbook. Develops and deliver training programs.
Maintains the employment process including appropriate documentation of the staffing process, updated requisitions forms, EEO/AA data, new hire orientation, relocation, exit interviews and feedback analysis. Coordinates the company's badge system, Cafeteria, Credit Card and Fleet Car program.
Maintains their Human Resources professional and technical knowledge through cross training and participation on special projects. Must be able to multi task and demonstrate flexibility based on changing requirements of the business.
Advise and assist management in communicating with team members on human resources matters, being sensitive to team members' needs and morale; reporting on the same with recommendations to maintain sound employee relations to promote a union free environment.
Manage corporate HR projects and/or functions as assigned (i.e. unemployment claims, Worker's Compensation, recognition, as well as improvement projects).
Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, Psychology or other related concentration
8 years of Human Resources experience
Experience working in both Union and non-Union facilities.
Experience with progressive HR Generalist responsibilities
Experience in Staffing, Training, Compensation, Employee Relations and administrative support functions.
Experience with administration and coordination of compensation programs and employee performance review programs.
Previous HR supervisory experience.
Ability to interface with all levels of management as well as team members in the office and on the shop floor.
Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent critical thinking, strategic and analytical skills needed, as well as the ability to successfully execute strategies in support of the business goals.
Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles preferred.
A minimum of 10% of overnight travel required.
