The role sits as part of the Global People Insights team in the Organisational Development & Learning (OD&L) Centre of Expertise (CoE). The CoE will bring together experts from all our areas of specialism – Global People Insights, Knowledge Management, Learning, Organisational Development, Leadership and Senior Executive Development, Continuous Improvement and Causal learning. The CoE will deliver the Shell OD&L strategy, thought leadership, set standards, define methodology, drive innovation and lead communities of practice.

In the CoE Global People Insights team, People Analytics is the global centre of expertise for Shell’s advanced analytics needs in people related areas. The team provides strategic inputs into senior management and HR to support evidence-based decision making on human capital. We work closely with other People Insights teams to provide a full suite of People Insights services (including data, reporting, advanced analytics, survey and assessment).

The role reports to the Manager CoE Global People Insights. The role has 5 direct reports and is responsible for coaching, development, and performance management of same. It also includes interfacing with a number of stakeholders including HR leadership teams, Digital HR, HR talent VPs, OD&L VPs, HR Business and Country VPs, data privacy, Legal and IT. This may broaden in time. The role works closely with the Manager Org. Behaviour and Assessment, Manager Management Information (MI) Excellence and Product Owner People Insights.

What’s the role?

You are primarily responsible for leading and inspiring a team to drive Shell’s strategy of analytics in people decision making and to ensure most value is generated via data insights and deployment of analytics products to end users. The role will actively partner with HR Process owners and business leaders to understand needs and strategic direction of HR and business to design the roadmap of People Analytics and to ensure that People Analytics offerings best address needs and create the largest business value.

Over the years, Shell has established a mature People Analytics team leveraging on good quality of HR data, established reputation with business and HR leaders, technical expertise in data science within the team and close collaboration with other data science teams within Shell. The role is expected to bring Shell’s People Analytics to the next level and drive Shell towards a data and insight-based organisation. This includes playing a key role in the HR digitalisation agenda and the implementation of HR Data Platform, driving scaled up people analytics products and offerings that enable People and Business Strategy and leading the development of people analytics in new areas.

You will ensure seamless cooperation with MI Excellence and Org. Behaviour and Assessment to ensure that People Insights services (reporting, analytics, survey and assessments) the People Insights CoE provides to end users are top quality, valid and consistent.

Additionally, you will be externally connected to relevant trends and innovations and continuously review, research up-to-date People Analytics products & solutions by pioneering and experimenting in the field. You will prioritize and focuses on areas to ensure business impact and value, contributes to and ensures alignment with the global people agenda.

What we need from you


A Master or PhD in a mathematical field such as Data Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Operations Research or Applied Mathematics.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills (programming, predictive analytics, modelling, NLP) and extensive years of experience in the applied data science field.
Energy and ambition to develop the People Analytics capability to the next level from providing services to providing larger-scale products through HR Data Platform.
Team Leadership skills, develop people, set clear goals, and provide appropriate performance feedback. Able to structure and develop the team in the way that fits the future development of the team.
A track record of successfully managing complex projects with senior stakeholders within data analytics domain.
Good understanding of analytics product roadmap, end user personas, and end to end analytics product journey. Strong experience of scaling up analytics products.
Strong consultancy skills. Able to provide thought partnership to senior stakeholders on strategic projects from data analytics perspective.
Able to balance between short term demand driven projects and building data and analytics foundations to serve long term strategic needs.
Experienced in working cross functions, for example, IT, Digital HR, Compliance and Employee Relations. Able to manage stakeholders in a global mixed matrix organization.
Stay up to date on developments in data analytics, have access to a broad global external network of data science practitioners and organizations, and recognized externally as an expert in data science.
Interest in other People Insights services including reporting, survey and assessment and be able to integrate with other services when building Analytics roadmap.
Experience in Human Resources is an advantage but not a requirement.
Integrity in Working with sensitive and confidential data.
