With support from the Senior Manager, Human Resources the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the development and delivery of core services in Western Canada, such as enhancing retention, employee training and development, recognition, leadership development and career management. You’re the go-to person who makes their lives easier.
Although administration is a large part of your day-to-day work, you’ll also collaborate, consult, coach and strategize with both managers and employees. Building trust in and the visibility of the HR discipline is key. The time you’ll spend in this role will prepare you for working full-time in the trenches. But before you’re ready to do that, you must know CM’s business and your discipline inside and out. You need to understand the big picture and implications of HR decisions before you can make recommendations. You’re finding your place in the HR discipline and the more exposure you have to different areas, the more you bring to CM.
You will:
Assist in supporting projects, programs and practices that engage, inspire and recognize, extraordinary results such as
Research, develop, prepare and deliver high-impact HR solutions that fit CM, the industry and the culture of the company
Partner with Career Developers and Leadership Team to balance manager and employee advocacy
Keep current on HR trends including Canadian compensation, career management, orientation, retention etc.
Provide input on company policy as employment laws change
Advise and interpret policies and procedures for management and employees
Manage the orientation program for new employees in the Calgary office with other members of the HR team
Assist Career Developers with performance management including regular performance reviews, progressive discipline, consultations and terminations
Facilitate training and development for Career Developers
Support and advise local recruitment team on manners of procedure and policy
Administer and update Human Resource paperwork including offers, employment agreements, benefits, probation letters, change and payroll forms
You have:
3 years HR Generalist experience
2 years of experience with Diversity & Inclusion program delivery
Broad knowledge of total rewards, training and development, employee benefits and employee relations
Experience facilitating orientation and leadership training programs
Strong knowledge of people management and Canadian Employment Standards, particularly Ontario, Alberta & British Columbia
Proven ability to work with all levels of management
