Job Description:
If you are a highly motivated team player with a keen interest in Industrial/Labour Relations, consider joining the Shell Canada Employee and Industrial Relations (ER/IR) Team. Working in a dynamic environment, as part of an experienced HR team you will be accountable for providing the full spectrum of industrial / labour relations strategic and operational delivery to Shell Canada’s businesses.
This role is responsible for a broad spectrum of proactive and reactive Industrial / Labour Relations activities including but not limited to, interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements, negotiations, grievance and arbitration handling, influencing on contingency management, coaching leaders on managing a unionized workforce, operations and trades pay practices, building the capability of front line leaders, where applicable have oversight and influence major contractors in their IR strategy/tactics, and working with external agencies. Examples include but are not limited to the following:
Business Partnering:
Be able to quickly integrate into the business, understand the longer-term business strategy, and align and leverage the industrial relations strategy to support the delivery of the business plan.
Be able to build the necessary business and functional credibility and relationships that enable the Industrial/Labour Relations Advisor to become a trusted business advisor at all levels in the organizations.
Work in partnership with the business to deliver cost-effective and efficient collective bargaining agreements.
Proactive Industrial Relations:
Develop and leverage relationships with Country, Regional and Local Union leaders.
Prepare and manage collective bargaining agreement negotiation strategy including external/internal stakeholder management.
Proactively manage and enable a healthy IR environment, using data to identify emerging IR trends and define mitigations for potential future risks.
Advise and coach line leadership and fellow team members in positive employee relations proactive and reactive practices.
Represent Shell at external industry associations.
Requirements:
A degree, with preference in Business Commerce, Human Resources, or Industrial/Labour Relations related discipline. A Labour Relations Professional Certification and a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is preferred.
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in human resources with a least 5 years working in Labour Relations.
Deep understanding of employment standards and labour laws across multiple provinces with ability to translate to business impact(s).
Demonstrated breadth and depth across the Industrial Relations (IR) scope with experience and accountability in developing and executing IR strategy, including experience in collective bargaining administration, contract negotiations, strategic grievance and arbitration case management.
Strong analytical, problem solving skills and stakeholder management capability.
Demonstrated ability to maintain high quality delivery when supporting clients of significant size, complexity and scope.
Ability to manage competing priorities and skillfully deal with ambiguity.
Demonstrated ability to build rapport and influence at all levels of an organization through interpersonal effectiveness and coaching for performance.
Must be able to deliver consistently across a variety of businesses and employee populations (examples include: Executive to Entry-Level, Staff, Operations and Trades, Technical to Commercial).
Some business travel required, depending on business needs.
The preferred location is in Calgary, Alberta but will consider Edmonton, Alberta as a secondary location.
