Yahoo has had layoffs in the works for awhile now, but no one was quite sure when they would take place. It was now been announced that the layoffs are to occur Wednesday with employees leaving the company that same day.

For now, the number of those being laid is at 1,500 but some do expect the number to rise.

The cuts are said to be across the board with no one department taking all the hits. However, human resources, finance, and general departments will likely be more affected simply due to the large number of staff these areas employ.

Most employees have little indication as to whether or not they will be cut, because management has let little information be known concerning the layoffs.

Speculation is that the layoffs might represent a more comprehensive restructuring initiative.
