$13.00 hourly - Human Resources Generalist - Under direction of the Human Resources Director, this position performs a variety of professional and administrative duties in support of the human resources functions including recruiting; onboarding; benefits administration; processing worker’s compensation, unemployment, and FMLA claims. The ideal candidate should have excellent customer service skills, be detail oriented, and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to the following:
Maintain regular and prompt attendance; physically present to work.
Performs after hours work as required (nights and weekends).
Follow City and Department policies and procedures and be able to explain them to employees and applicants.
Work harmoniously with others; be helpful; cooperative and courteous and demonstrate a good attitude in all dealings with the public, co-workers and others.
Proofread and correct documents and records.
Learn the City’s benefits and assist in the administration of all City benefits, including but not limited to establishing eligibility, enrolling and terminating employees and assisting during the Open Enrollment process.
Assist in evaluating information on applications, insurance forms and other records to verify completeness and accuracy and to determine whether applicants and employees are qualified for employment and benefits.
Greet and assist citizens and co-workers, handle messages and inquiries over the phone and in person, and provide exceptional customer service. Communicate effectively with the HR Director, co-workers and others (internally and externally) in order to provide, exchange, or verify information, answer inquiries, address issues, or resolve and/or report problems or complaints.
Respond accurately and promptly to inquiries and direct citizens to the appropriate persons according to their needs.
Set up, manage and maintain paper or electronic records and filing systems for customers, employees and others; record information, update records and documentations, and maintain records.
Copy, fax, type and file forms, letters, email messages and other documents and pick up, distribute and properly handle mail.
Print, issue, review, accept and properly process applications and forms.
Perform routine data entry and other record support activities, including creating, sorting, copying, distributing, and filing documents.
Maintain appropriate confidentially related to City business.
Complete forms and follow processes in accordance with City procedures and the instructions of supervisor.
Schedule and confirm appointments for applicants and supervisors.
Report in a timely manner all issues, concerns or questions to the HR Director or others as directed by the HR Director.
Demonstrate initiative and diligence in the prompt and proper completion of all job duties and instructions, whether or not listed in the Job Description.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Associate degree in human resources or related field preferred.
At least three years of related experience.
3-5 years of customer service experience
Have and maintain a valid Class C Texas Operator’s license and an acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference will be given to applicants who meet the Basic Requirements and Education and who possess at least a basic knowledge of employment laws and government regulations including, but not limited to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the American with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADA or ADAAA), the Fair Labor Standard (FLSA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws, Consolidates Omnibus Budget and Reconciliation Act (COBRA), and Workers’ Compensation.
SKILLS:
Intermediate level skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Keen eye for detail and diligence in identifying and correcting errors including when creating documents, email messages and other records and when proofreading documents and other records of any type.
Apply learning to job duties and general rules to specific problems to produce logical solutions.
Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of the City’s INCODE software.
Effectively manage multiple calls, requests for help, and critical tasks simultaneously.
Good judgment and the ability to solve problems and assist customers with solutions to problems.
Maintain confidentiality of information and data.
Work independently to accomplish Department objectives within his or her areas of responsibility.
Communicate in English effectively, both orally and in writing, including but not limited to Talking clearly with and listening effectively to others in order to convey information effectively.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES Work is performed in office settings and at various on-site activities and events. The following physical capabilities are required.
Hand-eye coordination and fine manipulation skills to operate computers and various office machinery.
Good listening skills
Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Ability to sit for long periods.
