The Benefits Department of Arnold & Porter has an opening for a Retirement Benefits Coordinator in Washington, DC office.
The Coordinator will assist the Director of Retirement Benefits with the administration of all aspects of the Firm’s retirement plans.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensuring that the firm’s Profit-Sharing/401(k), Defined Contribution Plan and Cash Balance Defined Benefit Plan is administered in compliance with firm policies, ERISA, DOL, IRS and other applicable tax codes.
Administering the benefits retirement payroll processes and serving as a liaison to the Payroll Department. Analyzing payroll reports and researching/resolving discrepancies.
Assisting with the Cash Balance Plan administration, including but not limited to, coordinating and tracking benefit payments, maintaining and analyzing participant data, tracking eligibility, calculating benefit amounts and communicating plan design and benefit options to eligible participants.
Coordinating tax filings (5500, SSA, PBGC) and planning audits. Ensuring timely completion and filings.
Analyzing data to ensure proper contributions and compliance data are in accordance with the terms of the plan. Monitoring and tracking eligibility dates and service credit.
Preparing webcast announcements and coordinating webinars to promote ongoing to retirement plan education.
Assisting with annual funding of profit-sharing and cash balance plan contributions. Preparing and distributing contribution information to participants. Compiling contribution data for Finance Department.
Processing invoices and maintaining retirement plan budget spreadsheet to monitor expenses.
Conducting regular audits of deferrals and loan amounts to ensure accuracy. Identifying discrepancies and assisting with corrections.
Consulting with the plan actuary, recordkeeper, auditors and investment advisors regarding benefit payments, statistical data, plan operation and design.
Assisting with all retirement plan participant communications, such as annual compliance notices, plan design changes, deferral limits, departure information and other operational processes.
Supporting ERISA Counsel, as needed, with updating and reviewing participant communications, QDROs, SPDs and Plan amendments.
Coordinating, scheduling and creating agendas for Trustee meetings.
Researching, analyzing and resolving retirement plan issues.
Assisting with onboarding and new hire orientations.
Updating and maintaining retirement plan information on benefits intranet site.
Maintaining retirement plan records, filings, and documents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree.
A minimum of two years of retirement plan administration experience, preferably for a law firm or a private organization.
Strong skills in MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook; working knowledge of HRIS and database software; basic understanding/familiarity with UltiPro HRIS is preferred but not required.
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
Ability to demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness in handling confidential and sensitive information.
Ability to prioritize and manage time appropriately.
Strong problem solving skills.
