Summary:
William Paterson invites applications for the full-time, 12-month position of Associate Director Labor and Employee Relations.

Reporting to the Director of Labor and Employee Relations, the Associate Director of Labor and Employee Relations functions as an integral member of the Division of Human Resources through execution of critical labor and employee relations functions.

The incumbent is responsible for maintaining and enhancing an effective and collaborative workplace environment. This position works with a diverse employee population on confidential matters and with a high level of autonomy.

The Division of Human Resources is comprised of Employee Relations, Talent, Recruitment and Performance Management, Employee Services, Payroll, and Compensation and Benefits. The Division is proud to serve as a value-added service that supports employees and University leaders to best serve students in a fiscally responsible manner.

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Advises and counsels managers and employees with regard to employee relations, labor-management relations, policies and procedures, and sensitive personnel matters.
Develops or assists in the development of proactive, best practice strategies to enhance the workplace environment.
Provides coaching, guidance and resources to employees and managers to facilitate positive conflict resolution outcomes.
Coordinates disciplinary matters and grievances; provides guidance to management personnel in addressing disciplinary issues and responding to grievances. May serve as the management representative in hearings.
Drafts or assists in drafting policies and proposals; conducts research and prepares reports containing findings and recommendations; updates existing policies and division webpages related to functions of the unit.
Serves as member of local negotiations team for faculty and professional staff matters.
Conducts investigative interviews and prepares cogent reports of investigative outcomes.
Serves as the Deputy Ethics Liaison Officer (ELO) and manages employee compliance with state ethics laws, including mandatory training and required submissions.
Provides advice and guidance on ethics related matters to employees and board of trustee members; reviews submissions to ensure compliance with applicable ethics provisions.
Develops content and delivers workshops, trainings and presentations.
Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with University personnel at all levels, as well as key personnel from State agencies and external clients.
Work collaboratively HR administrators on projects and special assignments.
Represents the department at meetings, serves on committees, and participates in opportunities to enhance professional development.
Performs other duties as appropriate to the position.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in labor and/or employee relations in education, higher education, or other field related to the responsibilities of the position.
Advanced proficiency in the use of technology including Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong database query skills
Additional, preferred, qualifications:
Masters degree
HR certification
Experience in New Jersey public sector higher education.

Ability to maintain composure while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
