What You Will Do:
Director, Physician Recruitment Services
Full Time, M-F 8am-5pm
Linthicum, MD
Under limited supervision, directs a comprehensive physician recruitment program to ensure an adequate complement of physicians in accordance with the needs and goals of University of Maryland Medical System. Works with executive and medical staff to present physician recruitment goals and obtain commitment to those goals. Develops strategies for attracting a proper mix of physicians in conjunction with the Chief Medical Officer for UMMS. Maintains current knowledge of national and regional compensation trends for various Physician specialties. Develops and maintains a network of relationships with leaders involved.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Central Recruitment Function
Chairs Physician Workforce Group. Uses management strategies that encourage member hospitals participation in centralized recruitment function. Acts a liaison with administration for information and direction purposes as well as final decision making. Develops a cooperative team spirit in the work group.
Responsible for candidate lead generation, pre-screening and appropriate follow-up for physician candidates in designated specialties. Serve as liaison between hospital administration and medical staff. Oversee Physician Recruitment Website. Monitor website updates and marketing strategies
Work with the hiring manager to develop job description. Ensure organization is filling vacancies in a timely and cost efficient manner. Establishes and maintain appropriate relationships with external recruitment consultants.
Prepare summary of activities through the Recruitment Status Report. Monitor Applicant Tracking System. Coordinate recruitment candidate database and accurate opportunity profiles. Facilitate training for system hospital users.
Prepare annual department budget. Monitor and utilize budget funds in the most cost effective manner. Oversee cost center, accounts payable and invoicing.
Recruitment Strategies
Monitor healthcare and labor trends; develop innovative recruitment strategies accordingly. Work with marketing and medical staff at designated member hospitals to develop innovative recruitment programs such as targeted advertising, employment open houses, career fairs, direct mail campaigns and search committees. Coordinate print and electronic advertising.
Ensure recruitment strategy compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, policies and procedures, and internal goals. Regularly evaluate effectiveness of recruitment approach via surveys, focus groups or assessments, including satisfaction, retention and quality of recruits.
Candidate Identification
Develop and maintain professional relationships with Residency Program Directors, Medical System leadership, MedicalSchools and Medical Associations. Screen potential recruits to determine their competencies and qualifications and obtain references.
Contract Development
Assist in negotiations of contracts, sign-on bonuses as needed. Maintain updated physician salary survey information. Recommend and/or assess fair market value assessments. Verify funding with hospital finance departments. Negotiate relocation assistance.
Work with Legal to ensure applicant's compliance with local, state, federal, and professional licensure requirements and all recruitment practices are in keeping with accepted legal practices and appropriate regulations.
Monitor outcomes of various contracting strategies.
What You Need to Be Successful:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Nursing, Psychology, or related area of study is required. MBA preferred.
Five years experience in the assessment and selection of healthcare physician professionals as a member of a hospital or physician practice is required. Strong business skills in the areas of marketing, finance, and human resources are necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Detailed knowledge of recruitment and contracting approaches and options. Knowledge of physician recruitment software and centralized contracting databases ideal.
Maintain expertise within the physician recruitment field.
Demonstrated proficiency in fundamental concepts, principles, practices, and procedures of employment law and generally accepted employment practices. Knowledge of EEO, ADA, and Immigration requirements.
Strong interpersonal and listening skills are required to work effectively with various levels of employees and management staff.
Knowledge of the organizational complexities of a major medical school, teaching hospitals and community hospitals.
